“I see
myself
as a
treasure
hunter
—
and a matchmaker
of visionaries,”
says stylist and creative Ann-Maleen, whose career is rooted in the poetry of emerging designers. Her path from ballet stages to backstage fittings reads like a love letter to the unsung heroes of fashion—those who dream boldly and craft meticulously. In a world that races forward, she chooses to celebrate the slow magic of artisanship, where every piece tells a story, and every look becomes a living legacy.
LÉOPARD: For a short introduction, tell us a little about your background.
Ann-Maleen: It's quite a tale—but to sum it up, my life has always revolved around culture and the arts. From a young age, weekends with my parents were spent in museums, at ballets, and at concerts. Later, when I stopped dancing, I returned to that creative space through a new lens—reigniting my passion and inspiration in the visual and fashion arts.
LÉOPARD: You've mentioned that emerging designers are central to your styling inspiration. What led you to work so closely with young talent?
Ann-Maleen: I believe these designers are storytellers in the purest form. They create with raw individuality, often against all odds. Their work is deeply personal, and I thrive in that environment—a drive, a passion, and an unrelenting work ethic are magnetic. I see in them the same fire I had when I began. Their vision speaks louder than words.
LÉOPARD: You're also an influencer on Instagram, where you spotlight artisans and unique designers. Is that the foundation of your personal wardrobe?
Ann-Maleen: Absolutely. I only wear pieces created by the incredible talents I collaborate with—many of whom I'm lucky to call dear friends. We support each other in every way we can. I studied fashion design and even launched my own brand, which was shown at London Fashion Week. I've lived that dream—the long hours, the all-consuming responsibility, and the quiet patience it takes to allow something meaningful to unfold. That's why I champion this community so fiercely.
LÉOPARD: It's an incredible commitment—it takes everything out of you. What keeps you going?
Ann-Maleen: The relationships. There's a deep trust between the designers and me. It's a sensitive, silent collaboration where we anticipate each other's needs—whether it's a last-minute fitting, a sample shipped halfway across the world, or a VIP customization. We're individuals united by the same standard: excellence.
That's the real meaning of fashion
—it's a miraculous dance of minds.
LÉOPARD: Would you say these emerging designers form a niche community that isn't often spoken about?
Ann-Maleen: Definitely. However, I work with amazing PR teams who not only support but nurture these talents. For example, the wardrobe for this shoot came from L'APPART, a house I hold close to my heart. These PR directors often have decades of experience—they're the architects of this niche. Coming from a personal shopping background, I connect these designers with clients who appreciate both heritage brands and fresh talent. There's something truly special in being the first to wear a unique piece, to form a connection with the garment and the maker. I see myself as a treasure hunter—and a matchmaker of visionaries.
LÉOPARD: There's nothing quite like being stopped on the street and sharing the name of a designer who deserves to be celebrated. It's a beautiful space you're helping grow.
Ann-Maleen: That makes me so happy to hear. I'm a lover of quality, and that's what these small productions offer. And let's not forget one of the most important aspects: "Who made your clothes?" Sustainability and ethical production are at the heart of what I do. It's something that must be honored, cherished, and rewarded.
